Terms of use.
The ground rules for the national *BuiltThis website and the community programs we organize.
Effective August 18, 2026
These Terms govern your use of builtthis.ai and participation in programs organized by the national *BuiltThis team (together, the “Services”). Individual events may be operated with local hosts and may publish additional registration, venue, project, or participation terms. If event-specific terms conflict with these Terms, the event-specific terms control for that event. By using the Services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
Programs and eligibility
*BuiltThis programming can change with the community. It may include hands-on build nights, expert showcases, nonprofit hackathons, workshops, demonstrations, and other formats. Eligibility, capacity, age requirements, registration, cost, equipment, and schedule may differ by event. Review the applicable event page before participating. A registration submission does not guarantee admission unless the event confirms it.
Community conduct
Treat participants, volunteers, hosts, venue staff, and their property with respect. Harassment, discrimination, threats, disruption, unlawful conduct, unsafe behavior, or attempts to access another person’s device, account, or data are not permitted. Follow reasonable instructions from organizers and venue staff. Organizers may refuse or end participation when reasonably necessary for capacity, safety, legal compliance, site security, or a violation of these Terms.
Devices, accounts, and responsible use
Unless an event says otherwise, you are responsible for your own device, charger, data, software, subscriptions, and accounts. Third-party tools have their own terms and privacy policies, and you are responsible for deciding whether they are appropriate for your use.
Do not put confidential employer or client information, health records, financial details, passwords, export-controlled information, personal data about others, or other sensitive material into an AI service or event project unless you are authorized and understand the provider’s practices. Back up important data. Do not use a project to infringe intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
Projects and collaborative events
At a standard build night, organizers do not claim ownership of what you create in your own account. Other formats can involve demonstrations, team projects, nonprofit beneficiaries, shared materials, open-source licenses, or pre-existing work. Those events may require separate project, intellectual-property, confidentiality, or showcase terms. Review and agree to those terms before contributing. Nothing on this general website transfers ownership of your work.
Photos and recordings
Photography or recording may occur at public community events. An event may offer a photo preference or opt-out process, and organizers will make reasonable efforts to honor it. We cannot guarantee control of every attendee’s camera. Event-specific media or showcase releases, if any, will be presented separately.
Website use and content
You may use this website for lawful personal and community participation. Site text, graphics, branding, and materials remain the property of their respective owners. You may not disrupt the site, evade controls, probe for vulnerabilities, introduce malicious code, scrape personal information, impersonate another person, or use the Services unlawfully.
Information and event changes
We try to keep information accurate, but programs, schedules, speakers, venues, capacity, activities, and host arrangements may change. Organizers may postpone, relocate, modify, or cancel an event when reasonably necessary. You are responsible for your own travel, subscriptions, equipment, and other costs unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing.
Educational purpose and third parties
The Services provide general educational information, not legal, medical, financial, cybersecurity, employment, or other professional advice. AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete; review and test work before relying on it. We are not responsible for the availability, content, security, terms, or privacy practices of third-party services.
Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. Participation and use of third-party tools are at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, *BuiltThis organizers, hosts, sponsors, volunteers, and service providers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, opportunities, or device access arising from the Services. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
General terms
Applicable law governs these Terms without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If one provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. We may update these Terms by posting a revision with a new effective date. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
